Dr. Morgan serves at Lee University as an Associate Professor and as the Assistant Director of Squires Library. A faculty member at Lee since 2003, he previously served as archivist at the Dixon Pentecostal Research Center (Church of God archives) and also as Curatorial Assistant at the Museum Center at Five Points in downtown Cleveland, Tennessee.
A native of Morgantown, Miss., Morgan earned a B.A. in History and Communication, Public Relations from Lee University in 1998 and a M.S. in Information Science from The University of Tennessee, Knoxville in 2002. He earned a Ph.D. in Organizational Leadership from Regent University (Virginia Beach, Virginia) in 2009. He was also named the 2009 Outstanding Graduate in Ph.D. in Organizational Leadership, having been selected from 31 other Ph.D. graduates from Regent’s School of Global Leadership and Entrepreneurship, where he gave a speech during commissioning exercises in May.
In addition to his responsibilities in Squires Library at Lee University, Morgan teaches undergraduate courses in leadership and freshman study skills and a graduate leadership course. He is an academic advisor and a Strengths Vocational Advisor assisting students in selecting a career path. He also serves on the Critical Thinking Task Force and was elected by the university faculty to serve as their representative on the Academic Council. Dr. Morgan is a past member of the Undergraduate Curriculum Committee and Faculty Council.
Morgan is active in several professional organizations, including serving on the Board of Directors for the Tennessee Library Association, where he has served as co-chair of the Publications Advisory Board, chair of the Tennessee Library Instruction Rountable, and as co-chair of the Conference Planning Committee for 2010-11. In addition, he serves as Second-Vice President of the Historical Society of Church of God Movements, following six years as Executive Secretary and Treasurer. He is a former member of the Society of American Archivists, for which association he served several years as the Tennessee Key Contact Representative.
Dr. Morgan also is a member of the American Library Association, the International Leaders Association, the Scoiety for Pentecostal Studies, and a lifetime member of the Marion County, Mississippi, Historical Society. His recent academic presentations include papers on servant leadership, self-sacrificing leadership, and transformational leadership.
He is the 2007 recipient of the Excellence in Advising Award at Lee University, and he received the prestigious James E. Ward Library Instruction Award from the Tennessee Library Association in 2007.
His dissertation research, titled “The Impact of Trust in Confidant on the Relationship Between Self-Disclosure and Job Satisfaction Among Pastoral Leaders in the Church of God of Prophecy in the United States", focuses on the need for pastors to have someone in whom to confide and how their trust in a confidant impacts their willingness to share personal information and impacts their job satisfaction.
In July 2010 Dr. Morgan received the Charles W. Conn Historical Writing Award for 2008-2010 for his e-book history of the Church of God in Mississippi titled Streams of Living Water: 100 Years of the Church of God in Mississippi. This award is chosen by the Church of God Historical Commission and presented biennially by the denomination to coincide with its general assembly. In August 2011 he was included in a list of international men and women as one
of "40 Young Influencers in the Church of God."
Dr. Morgan is an ordained minister with the Church of God (Cleveland, Tennessee), in which denomination he previously served as Minister of Youth and Children for 2 years at a local church in Mississippi. He is a published author, including 3 books and more than 30 academic and inspirational articles in national and international publications. He frequently speaks at local churches and is active in community service. Dr. Morgan is a member of the Church of God in his hometown of Morgantown, Mississippi, and he attends Westmore Church of God in Cleveland, Tennessee. His hobbies include reading, traveling, writing, fishing, hiking, watching movies, and martial arts.
