A few evening's ago we the CamFam met up at Nando's to celebrate Indy's birthday. I think Nando's is Indy's favorite place to hang out. Tessa captured this moment that evening, and it essentially defines the communication style I share with Ellie (to my right). It is a rat between us for sarcasm and facial expressions at each other's comments. Yep, it is pretty much like a real family. I'm so thankful for this opportunity to share life with these incredible students here in the U.K.

After class today I walked the long way around to make an appointment for a haircut. I once again passed this beautiful spot on Bridge Street. I paused to take it in, then I walked some more. Cambridge is a magical, beautiful place. Each day I'm finding a street that leads me to a new discovery. This week I've met several locals and appreciated their hospitality. They seem to like my accent, but, I confess, I also appreciate the English accent.
This afternoon for lunch I popped into The Mitre, one of the local pubs dating back to 1752. An older gentleman at a table next to me initiated conversation when he heard me speak. After learning I'm originally from Mississippi, his eyes lit up and he began to talk about the noted authors and singers from my home state. He's a fan of the incomparable Leontyne Price. It made him extremely happy that I know who she is-- but not personally, of course-- and that she's about to be 90 years old. Then he began to talk about the literature, history, and music of England and various places throughout Europe. He needed a listening ear, and I learned a great deal I'd never have known otherwise. I spent three hours listening to him before I had to race back to the hotel to meet the students for dinner. These are the moments that make Cambridge come alive to me. |
AuthorI'm Louis Morgan. I see the whole world as my home and its inhabitants as my neighbors and friends. One of my favorite things to do is travel, especially on country back roads. Welcome to a glimpse into my adventures! ArchivesCategories |
