"I really believe I shall always be talking of Bath, when I am home again-- I do like it so very much."
~ Jane Austen I concur with these words penned by Jane Austen. Today I enjoyed afternoon tea at the Jane Austen Centre. Oh my! I may never need to eat again. It was delicious. (Images are cropped in the image gallery. Click on individual images to see the whole view.)

Today lunch was on our own, so I chose to enjoy a delicious meal at The Pump Room. I was seated directly in front of the piano, where the pianist played relaxing Jazz tunes. The Pump Room is a setting in Jane Austen's novels Northanger Abbey and Persuasion. Afterward, I joined the students for a tour of the historic Roman Baths adjacent to The Pump Room. Today the CamFam enjoyed a meeting and coffee hosted by the mayor of Bath, Paul Crossley, and his wife, Margaret. He welcomed us into his office and greeted us individually and as group. I had the honor of responding to his greeting on behalf of the group. Referred to as "Mr. Mayor," his official title is The Right Worshipful, The Mayor of Bath. Paul Crossley is the 789th mayor of Bath, with the earliest known mayor dating back to the year 577. Mr. Mayor and his wife spent a complete hour with us and are most cordial and welcoming. He also took us unto the council debating hall and explained to us the local government process. Anthony Martin, the mayor's assistant, was most welcoming and informative also. What a unique and special experience! (Images are cropped in the image gallery. Click on individual images to see the whole view.)
We arrived safely in Bath today by coach. I enjoying seeing the English countryside as we pass by. So far, Bath is a lovely city. Here's the view from my hotel room window for the next few days. It looks like a movie scene or setting for a brilliant novel. Welcome to Bath, England! Also, being a hotel rewards member really does have privileges-- complimentary snacks and free wifi in the room.
Today we braved the rain, cold, wind, and mud to see the Avebury Henge monuments. This prehistoric site from 3,000 BC contains the largest stone circle in Europe. We were most fortunate to have a guided tour by Stephen Bird, the Head of Heritage Services at Bath and North East Somerset Council in the U.K. and a longtime friend to Lee University. It was a fascinating tour. (Images are cropped in the image gallery. Click on individual images to see the whole view.)
Tonight after dinner I tagged along with M-Cat, Sarah, and Stephanie to investigate Bath and see the Pulteney Bridge over the River Avon, which was the location for a scene in the 2012 film of Les Miserables. Thanks to the students for the fun adventure filled with laughter. Thanks to Bath for the beautiful architecture and scenery. Bath is a magical place, and I think I will long remember my evening stroll through the streets. (Images are cropped in the image gallery. Click on individual images to see the whole view.)
Different days and different views. I'll not grow tired of these strolls along the River Cam. Some of these images were made by students on the trip. (Images are cropped in the image gallery. Click on individual images to see the whole view.)
I got a haircut yesterday, but I wasn't pleased with it. I went to another barber today. Charlie (the new barber) is the bomb. He made me look brilliant. [Ok, only in my mind, but kindly humor me about it.] When i left the barber and began walking down the sidewalk I heard a British accent behind me say, "Tennessee Louie has his hair trimmed in Cambridge. He's sure to stay now." I turned around to see walking behind me one of the locals I met this week. It made my day. Have I mentioned I really enjoy this place?
The CamFam is celebrating Ellie's birthday with dinner together at Wagamama. The forced me to join them to try and be nice to Ellie. Whatever!? Actually, Ellie is great fun. I am enjoying my time with all the students. I cannot imagine a better group with which to travel.
Even the sidewalks and streets are beautiful here. Just a little jaunt near Magdalene College at Cambridge University.
